Home Away From Home

Today was another work day of painting and projects around Shofar. A lot of progress has been made and we might have had a little fun along the way. We also had an awesome opportunity to set up a video on the local basketball court and we invited the neighborhood. It was a lot of fun watching a movie and handing out popcorn. It seems like this week is flying by!

We are getting ready and excited to continue to meet different church groups and make new friends.

Love you and miss you guys!

Today was Amazing!

Hey guys! Missing you all thank you for your prayers and devotion.

Today we head to the city after pick up the teachers to get ready for Shofar's open house. Pray for the school if you think about it it will be a year of challenges.

In the city we were able to meet the director of Shelter and his wife. Paul has been living in the Philippines for roughly 30 years. They gave us a tour and we hung out with them to get to know each other. Then the kids woke up and we all got to play with them and share some Polaroids with them. It was a huge hit for the kids.

Then we said goodbye for the evening to Brittany, Jess, and Jenae. They were going to be teaching a bible study with some of the camp counselors we met at camp.

Love you miss you!

A Day in the Life...

Meet Two-Tone (a.k.a. Ralphy), the newest member of Team 1. She faithfully guards Shofar when we are away, greets us every morning, and eats up all our leftover chicken bones. Her personality adds a lot to the team and life at Shofar wouldn't be the same without her.

We spent most of the day making Shofar spic and span...the view across the mountain looks mighty fine through clean windows! In the afternoon, a few of us went for a walk to the sari sari down the road for cold bottles of Coke. It's a welcomed treat in the heat of the afternoon.

The past few days have been good for working together as a team, catching our breath after camp, and laughing at (and with) each other...a lot.

Thanks for praying for us. God's good.

Looking Ahead...

We spent the last 24 hrs contacting, planning and preparing. Felty also got the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the multi cab and drive down the mountain while Tim & Sharon took care of some Shofar business in Cebu. God willing we have plans to visit Children's Shelter orphanage in Cebu, then leaving Jess, Jenae, and Brittany in the city for the weekend to do a Bible study and hold a WOTS meeting, while the rest of the team has plans in the Toledo area for youth groups and church outreaches.

Leaving room for God to interrupt our plans, we are expectantly waiting to see what He will do...

Thanks for your support and prayers. Praying for you all back home!

Refocus On the Week Ahead

Hello from the Philippines,
Today we took a break from action in the city to focus on housekeeping at Shofar. We got to take on all sorts of adventures such as painting, cleaning, and clearing brush on the road down the mountain. We all took turns whacking, mowing, hacking, and slashing our way through the jungle. We also had a lot of help from our neighbors down the road!

Please be in prayer for us as we look for opportunities to do ministry with local churches later this week. Miss you guys!

Today our Sunday Best. What's Next??

Hey Ya''ll!!

We had an awesome time at youth camp, now its time to see what God's plan is for us for the rest of our trip. We went to Toledo Frontier Community Church Inc. this morning and had a very blessed time with the people there. We had great opportunities to talk to a few of the youth and get to know them.

We discussed ideas of what we can do to teach any youth groups and such. Thanks for all the prayers and please continue to pray for us.

We went to Jollibee's (best fast food in the Philippines) today for lunch after church and it was amazing!!

Shofar Living

Hi everyone,

Today the team has been busy working on projects around Shofar before we start camp. Meal planning, cleaning up around Shofar, laundry (Courtney is a pro), & finishing up painting the guard house. The weather has been beautiful, we are glad we were able to miss the cold (& snow?) that came to you guys. We are excited to start camp & to meet the new campers.

Thank you for your prayers!

Today is Monday right....

Today was amazing, a few key things happened today that were a blessing and exciting. We got enough rain to finally fill the cistern which had previously been very low, it was over flowing from the rain! Thank the Lord!

Here at Shofar we have been doing something's to get ready for CAMP which by the way is in just a few short days. We put all the stickers on the bottles that the campers will get. They look great as you can see above. We checked all of our sound equipment to make sure everything is working and ready for camp and put together Tom's drums.

On the porch we fought off some killer bees that were trying to cut into our space by nesting in the railing of the stairs YIKES don't get stung, once the bees calmed down we hung the line for drying clothes.

We painted some of the guard house to make it look beautiful on the inside, and will paint the outside soon. Some of us even did laundry for the first time by hand. It is truly amazing to be able to stand at Shofar and just think back to all those who have stood in the same places. I think I can speak for all of us and just say how great and gracious God is to let us see and be here.

We send our love and thank those praying for us!

Maayong Buntag!

Hi everyone! Thanks for all your prayers - Team 1 has arrived safe and sound. We woke up Sunday morning to roosters, palm trees, and breakfast at the hotel. Then we were blessed to join Metropolitan Christian Fellowship in Cebu for their Sunday morning church service. Thanks, Pastor Fred, for reminding us that we're all different crayons in God's big crayon box. After church we enjoyed classic Filipino lunch (including rice, pancit, and sizzling sisig) then began the long trek out of the city and up the mountain to Shofar. For the first time ever, we managed to haul the entire team and their luggage all the way up the mountain (except Felty...he's still in Camp 7). We're settling into "home" here and enjoying one another's company. Please keep praying for unity, getting over jet lag, and preparations for camp this weekend!

- Team 1
